The Waffling, Wobbling Bushes

Big-spending President Bush is at it again. His latest bright idea is to spend billions of tax dollars on job training programs. Democrats rage because this is their turf.
Bush seeks to out-bid them.
Lost in all this silliness are the important questions: What business does government have training employees in the first place? What economic or moral sense does this make?
Job training is the responsibility of (1) the potential employees themselves and/or (2) the businesses in whose interest it is to have competent, trained employees with up-to-date skills.
President Bush just can't stand it. He correctly seeks to cut taxes on businesses and individuals. At the same time, he continues to reinforce and even expand the mentality that government is responsible for business. It's called corporate welfare. Where's the anti-business crowd when you need them? Why don't they condemn both liberals and conservatives for subsidizing training of employees? Let businesses be responsible for this--while cutting their taxes still further.
You can't have it both ways, Mr. Bush. Either it's a private marketplace, or it's not. Will you ever get this?
Syndicated talk-radio host Ken Hamblin asked me on the air not long ago what the problem is with these waffling, wobbling Bushes. I now know the name for it: Bush Disease. Both Big and Little Bush tried to get everyone to like them. Bush Sr. did it by reversing himself on taxes. Bush Jr. is doing it by expanding the welfare state on the levels of the Great Society and the New Deal. These Bushes will never learn. And their psychological dysfunction has to be paid for with billions if not trillions of tax dollars which could have been much better spent by the people who earned those dollars. Psychotherapy for these Bushes would be a heck of a lot cheaper than what it's costing our nation in taxes.
